  2. Go to the ARTstor navigation menu and click Tools > Download offline presentation tool (OIV).
  3. A new window will open, prompting you to accept ARTstor's Terms and Conditions of Use before downloading the software. Click Accept to proceed.
Please note: If this window does not open, you may have a popup blocker enabled. See: Disabling popup blockers.
  4. A new window will appear, listing the currently available version of OIV. For detailed instructions specific to your operating system (PC or Mac), please see:

For PCs

  1. When the OIV selection window opens, the recommended version for your machine is pre-selected for you. You may change this selection if necessary. Please note: You may choose to download the format for a different operating system; please see: Installing OIV 3.1 for Macs. An MSI version of the installer is also available; click on the link at the top of the page to access it. You can also download an older version of the OIV by clicking a link at the bottom of the window.
  2. A new window will appear, prompting you to choose between opening and saving the new file. Click Save. Your computer's directory will appear. Choose a target location for the installation file. The default location is your Desktop. You can also choose to save the OIV installation file (OIV_3.1_Win_Install.zip) onto a disk, CD, or removable drive. This way, you can install the OIV onto any other computer without having to download the installation file through ARTstor online, which can be helpful if you need to transport presentation files to remote locations. A new window will open, tracking the progress of the download. Once the process is complete, locate the downloaded file on your computer.
  3. Double-click the file that you just downloaded: OIV_3.1_Win_Install.zip. A new window will open, displaying the contents of the .zip file: oiv_installer.exe. Double-click the oiv_setup.exe file icon in this window.
  4. A new window will open, which will guide you through installing the OIV software. Click Next to begin the process. A second window will open, prompting you to select a folder where the OIV will be installed. In most cases, you can leave the default location (C:\Program Files\ARTstor\OIV\) and click the "Next" button to proceed. If you would like to choose a different location, click Browse. Then, use your computer's directory to select a location. Click Next to proceed.
  5. The next window that appears will prompt you to launch the installation. Click Install to begin the process. Once the process is complete, a final window will appear to confirm the completed installation. Click Finish.
  6. Start the newly installed OIV program. You may either:
    • Double-click the program shortcut icon on your Desktop; or
    • Go to the Start menu and select OIV from the list of programs installed on your computer (Start > Programs > ARTstor > OIV).
Please note: If you installed the OIV program while logged in as the computer's administrator, you will need to log off, then log in again as a normal user before starting the program for the first time. Otherwise, users may have difficulty re-authenticating the software when needed. For more information, please see: Authentication.
  7. When the program opens for the first time, a Getting Started guide will appear, asking you "What you would like to do?" You can choose to create a new presentation (from ARTstor images or your own local images), or open an existing presentation (one created in OIV or in PowerPoint). Click the radio button next to an option and then click OK to begin using OIV. This Getting Started guide will appear each time you start the OIV program. You may check the box at the bottom of the window so that this dialog no longer appears at startup.
  8. If you are using OIV while off campus, the first time that you open the program after installation you may see a window prompting you to authenticate the software. You can do this by clicking on the "Authenticate Now" button and entering the email address and password for your ARTstor account. For more information, please see: Authentication.
