There are three ways to create presentation slides:

• Start with a blank template
• Generate from selected image(s)
• Import PowerPoint slides

Start with a blank template

1. Click on the "Add a slide" icon , which you can find in the upper left corners of both the Slide Sorter and Slide Editor panes. Other options...

   You may also select the "Add a slide" option from the "Insert" toolbar menu or the Slide Sorter's right- (or Control-) click shortcut menu. There is also the Ctrl- (or ) equals (=) keyboard shortcut.

2. A new window will open, displaying a set of slide templates.
   • For each template, the gray boxes represent image placeholders, while the black lines represent text boxes. Zoom-able templates will display a magnifying glass. For a complete list of available slide templates, please see the Slide Templates guide.
   • If you prefer to start from a blank slide, use the first template listed, which contains the blue question mark (?).
3. Click on the desired template, and then click on the "OK" button to close the window.
4. Your new slide will appear in the Slide Sorter. Click on the slide preview to begin editing the slide in the Slide Editor pane.
• If you chose a template with images...

  A placeholder will appear for each image, instructing you to "Place image here." Find an image in the Image Palette and drag it up into the place holder. For detailed instructions, please see: Working with images.

• If you chose a template with text...

  A text box will appear, instructing you to "Double-click to add text." You may do so, or else drag an image from the Image Palette into the text box to import the attached data record. For more detailed instructions, please see: Working with text.

• If you selected a blank template...

  A blank slide will appear in both the Slide Sorter and Slide Editor panes. Use the icons at the top of the Slide Editor to add elements to this blank slide, whether images , text , or shapes .

• If you selected a template with any zoomable images...

Generate from selected image(s)

1. Click on an image in the Image Palette to select it. To select multiple images, use the Shift or Ctrl- (or ) key when clicking on thumbnails.
• Consecutive images...

  Click on a thumbnail, press the Shift key, and then click on a second image. All of the images in between these two thumbnails will be selected.

• Non-consecutive images...

  Click on a thumbnail, press the Ctrl- (or ) key, and then click on a second image. Only those two thumbnails will be selected. You may continue to select non-consecutive images by holding down the Ctrl- (or ) key while clicking on additional thumbnails.

2. Click on the "Create slides from selected image(s)” icon in the upper left corner of the Image Palette pane. Other options...

   You can also right- (or Control-) click with your mouse and select the “Slide creation wizard” option, or else use the Ctrl- (or ) G keyboard shortcut.

3. A new window will open, displaying a set of slide templates.
   • For each template, the gray boxes represent image placeholders, while the black lines represent text boxes. Zoom-able templates will display a magnifying glass.

4. Click on the desired template and click on the "OK" button to close the window.
To automatically import data into your slides...
• Select any template with a single image and single text box.
• Then, click into the "Populate metadata" checkbox in the bottom left corner of the window.
• A new window will open, prompting you to choose which data fields to import. Check all the desired fields and then click on the "OK" button.
5. Your new slide(s) will appear, with the images imported into the placeholders in the order that you selected them. Click on a slide preview in the Slide Sorter to begin editing that slide in the Slide Editor.
• If you need to replace an image...

  Find a different image in the Image Palette and drag it up into the desired place holder. For detailed instructions, please see: Working with images.

• If you need to edit imported data, or add new text...

  For existing data, double-click into a text box to begin keying in your changes. If you have not already added data, the text box will instruct you to "Double-click to add text." You may do so, or else drag an image from the Image Palette into the text box to import the attached data record. For more detailed instructions, please see: Working with text.

Import PowerPoint slides

You may import an exiting PowerPoint presentation to create OIV slides. Once you have converted your PowerPoint slides into the OIV format, you will be able to edit them as you would normal OIV slides. For detailed instructions, please see: Importing PowerPoint presentations.
