From Artstor Help
- Download and install the OIV software on a remote computer, just as you would at your home institution.
- The first time that you open the program, a new window will appear, notifying you that OIV must be authenticated to use ARTstor content.
- If you were on campus, this would happen automatically through IP authentication and you would not see this message.
- But, since you are off campus, ARTstor cannot automatically verify your IP address, so you will have to authenticate the software manually. This is a simple process of logging onto your ARTstor account; for more detailed instructions, please see: Authentication.
- Click on the "Authenticate Now" button.
- Enter the email address and password associated with your account.
- For your ARTstor account information to be accepted, there are two methods of remote access: using ARTstor's Remote Access Grace Period, or using your institution's proxy server.
- ARTstor Remote Access Grace Period: This is an alternative method of remote access for ARTstor users. Whenever an ARTstor user logs onto their registered account from a valid IP address, whether they are physically on campus or logged onto their institution's proxy server, they are granted a 120-day grace period. During this time, the user is able to access ARTstor from any location by logging onto their ARTstor account, including through the OIV.
- - If you have time left on your Remote Access Grace Period, you will be able to authenticate OIV remotely by simply entering your ARTstor email address and password in the dialog pictured above.
- - If you need to reset your Remote Access Grace Period, all you need to do is go back to campus and log onto your ARTstor account, even briefly. You may also connect to ARTstor through your institution's proxy server before logging onto your account. Either way, the clock will be reset on your Remote Access Grace Period and you will be able to authenticate OIV successfully.
- Institutional Proxy: By enabling a proxy connection, you can be identified as a valid user from an authorized institution when you log onto your ARTstor account to authenticate OIV.
- - Go to the "Edit" toolbar menu and select the "Preferences..." option. (In Macs, this option will be listed under the "ARTstor OIV" menu and is also accessible by using the -, keyboard shortcut.)
- - A new window will open, displaying a "Proxy Information" area. Check the box next to "Use proxy."
- - Then, enter your institution's proxy server IP address, as well as the port number, in the fields provided. If your proxy requires authentication, you can enter your username and password, and then use the "Test" button to confirm your proxy credentials. Finally, click on the “OK” button to close the window.
- Please note that this proxy method may not work for all types of proxy servers. Additionally, some institutions do not use a proxy server. In these cases, please use the ARTstor Remote Access Grace Period method described above.
- Once you have authenticated OIV for the first time, you will need to re-authenticate the software every 120 days, using either method described above. For more detailed instructions, please see: Authentication.
