From Artstor Help
These are common issues encountered by OIV users.
- I cannot download the installation file.
- Make sure that you are logged into your ARTstor account. Only logged in users can download the software.
- If you go to the "Tools" menu in the Digital Library, select the "Download offline presentation tool (OIV) option, and nothing happens... you may have popup blockers enabled. This would prevent the OIV download page from opening. Please see: Disabling popup blockers.
- I cannot open some of my OIV files.
- Check the version of OIV that you are using - Help (or ARTstor OIV on Macs) toolbar menu > About OIV. If the version is 2.x or 1.x, you might be trying to open files created in OIV 3.x in an older version of the software. These newer files are not compatible with previous versions. Try uninstalling the program currently installed on your computer, and then install the latest version.
- Check the memory setting in OIV - Edit (or ARTstor OIV on Macs) toolbar menu > Preferences. Your file may be too large to open with the current setting and you may need to increase the amount of memory that OIV can use. For detailed instructions, please see: Changing the memory setting.
- When I open an OIV file, the images have red error messages on them.
This means that you need to re-authenticate the software. For a detailed explanation, please see: Authenticating OIV.
- Go to the "Help" toolbar menu and select "Authenticate OIV."
- In the new window that opens, click on the "Authenticate now" button.
- Enter your ARTstor email address and password, then click on the "OK" button.
- I cannot import some of my images.
- Check the version of OIV that you are using - Help (or ARTstor OIV on Macs) toolbar menu > About OIV. You may be using an older version of OIV, which was incompatible with certain image file formats. Try uninstalling the program currently installed on your computer, and then install the latest version (version 3.0).
- Check the memory setting in OIV - Edit (or ARTstor OIV on Macs) toolbar menu > Preferences. Your image file may be too large to open with the current setting and you may need to increase the amount of memory that OIV can use. For detailed instructions, please see: Changing the memory setting.
- If your image file is large, you might try resaving the image as at a lower resolution or smaller size. ARTstor images will download at 3200 pixels on the long side at approximately 1 MB each. If your image is cosiderably larger, you may not need to import such a large image to present with OIV.
- I cannot import my PowerPoint file.
If your file was created in PowerPoint 2007, it will not import into OIV. Currently, OIV is only compatible with PowerPoint 2003 files.
- I cannot logon to download ARTstor image groups.
There may be a problem with your ARTstor account. Please send an email to ARTstor User Services. Make sure to include the email address associated with your ARTstor account in the message.
- Not all of the images in my group are downloading into OIV.
- If the images not downloading are from your Personal Collection...
- They may not yet be available for downloading if you uploaded them recently. After uploading an image to your Personal Collection, please wait two hours before trying to import that image into the OIV.
- You may be trying to download audio files, which are not compatible with the current version of OIV.
- These images may belong to another user's Personal Collection and you do not have sufficient access to download them. If you think that you should have access to those images, please contact the owner of the Personal Collection or the folder where you found the images.
- There may be a special character in the folder or group name, which may be causing an error. Check the group in ARTstor and delete any special characters [symbols (e.g. ? /\ <>+ # % etc.) or diacritics (e.g. é å ï ñ ô etc. ], and try downloading it again.
- If none of these apply, contact ARTstor User Services. Please include the following information in your message: the email address for your ARTstor account, the name of the group your are trying to download, and the name of the folder where it is saved.
- I get error messages when saving a file.
Check the file name. If you used certain special characters [symbols (e.g. ? /\ <>+ # % etc.) or diacritics (e.g. é å ï ñ ô etc. )], that may cause an error when OIV tries to save the file. Delete the special character and try saving again.
